About

The Lake was built as a reservoir in 1797; even to this day the Lake still supplies the canal system for which it was designed and remains an active working reservoir. Lying in a fold in thickly wooded hillsides, Rudyard Lake is a haven of peace and tranquility, less than a mile from the A523 that links Leek to Macclesfield.

The Lake covers 168 acres and is over 2.5 miles long, a five-mile circular walking route is available around the lake with extensions into to Leek or Rushton Spencer.
Leisure activities are managed by Rudyard Lake Ltd. including fishing, rowing, canoeing, trip boat, paddle boarding and sailing. The Rudyard Lake Steam Railway is a ride-able miniature railway that runs on the track bed of the original NSR line.

Rudyard Kipling's parents named him after having visited the lake in their courtship.
