VE Day 80th Anniversary Celebrations

About

Tamworth Borough Council honours our armed forces communities and VE Day 80th anniversary

Council to light the castle to honour D-Day 80 and Armed Forces Day

WW2 themed events taking place in the castle weekend 8-9 June

People encouraged to sign up to become a reservist

Tamworth Borough Council is proud to support Armed Forces Day and honour D-Day 80.

Next month, the nation will commemorate 80 years since the D-Day landings as beacons across the UK are lit in unity. Tamworth Castle will be lit up red, white and blue and families are invited to join the WW2 themed activities taking place in the castle on 8 and 9 June.

On 6 June 1944, the biggest seaborne invasion in history landed on the coast of Normandy, in the bid to end WW2. To honour those who served, Tamworth Borough Council are supporting events throughout June.

At the Tamworth Assembly Rooms, the D-Day Darlings will present their brand-new show on Saturday 9 June at 2.30pm.

Expect an emotive, reflective, entertaining and joyous performance. Featuring best loved songs from the era in a stunning new show marking a hugely significant moment in our country’s rich history, the 80th anniversary of D-Day!

With special guest performances from the D-Day Juniors, the brand-new D-Day Darlings Voices Choir and Colin Thackery, making this show suitable for all the family.

Reservists Day is Wednesday 26 June and Armed Forces Day is Saturday 29 June, when again the castle will be lit up to honour the week

To mark Armed Forces Day, the local British legion fun day is also happening on Saturday 29 June in the Castle Grounds.

Tamworth Borough Council is proud to host and support these events.

As a special thank you to our armed forces, the castle will be offering free admission for members of the armed forces and half price admission for their families, on Saturday 29 June.
