About
HuG is back and it's bigger and better than ever - it's a FREE fun day and a green way to spend a summer Saturday!
Yet again we've got a great line up of stallholders, performers, and activities for all ages signed up – this year’s theme is trees. We'll be launching the new town tree trail and there'll be a tree ID walk round Brough Park. Other outdoor events will include a pole lathe demonstration, and wood whittling and bodging.
There's plenty of activities for children and families with storytelling from Buxton-based, nationally acclaimed Gordon MacLellan aka Creeping Toad, and three drop-in workshops: building a tree mandala, leaf-printing using natural dyes, and Storylogs, where working with logs sliced from ash, participants can create a visual story to be burnt into the wood – thanks to OUTSIDE Arts for sponsoring this activity.
As ever there will be a wide range of stalls showcasing a variety of arts and crafts using different materials, all produced with an environmental ethos.
Local nature and environmental groups such as Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and Swifts of Leek will be there and there will be information about an exciting new Lottery-funded project to manage verges – Nature in Your Neighbourhood.
With musical entertainment throughout the day from acoustic rock and pop through singing and handbells to drumming and folk – we’ll be welcoming new band The Mighty Cucumbers – and poetry readings and a book stall, there will something for everyone!
