Halloween Events for Families
Explore the freaky House of Monsters maze at Alton Towers Resort, just one of the fang-tastic family attractions at Scarefest (6th-7th, 13th-14th, 19th October-2nd November).
Enjoy four brand new live shows, or head for the CBeebies Monster Ball, which features dancing flashmobs, ghostly pirates and more!
Visit the spine-tingling island of Sodor at Thomas Land, Drayton Manor Park, which will be a haven of freaky family fun for More Trick Than Treat (20th October-1st November).
The Monkey Forest will be full of mischief from the spooky simians, while the Deadly Dungeon will open its doors for face-painting, fancy dress and more (26th October-4th November).
The Trentham Estate has a terrifying trail to follow (27th-31st October), plus the ghoulish games at Magic Merlin’s wizarding school for the Hocus Pocus Adventure Challenge (29th October-1st November).
There will be chills and thrills galore at Weston Park (30th October-3rd November), including craft sessions and pumpkin carving, while the adventure playground and miniature railway are also open.
Make your mark at World of Wedgwood with pumpkin pottery painting (27th October-4th November) plus fun creative activities, children’s Museum trail with a prize for every child, and free factory tours for the under 12s (Monday-Friday only).
There is a boo-tiful time on offer at Gladstone Pottery Museum, where a packed programme of craft activities includes witches and wizards to paint (30th October-3rd November) and creepy cupcake decorating (2nd November).
At the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum, the witches’ lair will be home to terrifying tales (31st October), while Tamworth Castle (27th October) is full of things that go bump in the night and there are free pumpkin lanterns for all children aged three and over.
Explore a haunted house at the National Forest Adventure Farm, before learning a trick or two at the scare school and picking a free pumpkin from their patch to carve at home (26th October-4th November).
Design a jack o’lantern for the team to create at Amerton Farm, make a witch’s broomstick and see the spooky puppet show (27th-31st October).
Lower Drayton Farm has pumpkins to pick, fang-tastic fancy dress and the monster maize maze to explore at their spooktacular (27th October-4th November).
And you can carve your own devilish design into a pumpkin at the Dorothy Clive Garden (21st October).
Or brave the Churnet Valley Railway’s haunted carriages while watching out for ghostly goings-on along the 11-mile journey (31st October).
Things to do on Halloween for adults
Scarefest (6th-7th, 13th-14th, 19th October-2nd November) is back with a vengeance at Alton Towers Resort this year.
With terrifying scare mazes and live shows, it’s the most spine-tingling Scarefest yet. And there’s the rare chance to ride your favourite coasters in the dark, like the brand new Wicker Man, whose flames will light up the night sky for the first time!
The National Forest Adventure Farm promises the fright of your life at Screamfest (11th October-3rd November).
There are five scare mazes, including a brand new attraction for 2018, plus live entertainment from extreme performers, demon DJs and Hill Billy Joe’s Zombie Paintball Smash.
Take a Gruesome and Ghostly Tour through the streets of Lichfield and hear the monstrous tales and alarming anecdotes buried in the city’s history (various dates in October).
Or hunt for ghouls and monsters on a walk around Tamworth Castle after dark (31st October), with vigils in haunted medieval rooms for the brave ones.
Listen to the gruesome tales of former patrons on the National Brewery Centre’s Lights Out Tours (28th-31st October), and come as your aren’t for their Fancy Dress Ball (27th October).
Fancy dress is essential too at Conkers, where there’s a ghost train and haunted woods to try if you dare (27th October).
The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum will be taken over by the Lichfield Storytellers, regaling sinister stories and nightmare encounters (24th October), and there are more accounts of the macabre and mysterious at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery (19th October).
Winter is coming at Aston Marina, where The Bannisters, The Storks and a young Dragon mother are all under suspicion after an unexpected demise at the Game of Groans murder mystery evening (27th October).
Free Halloween Events in Staffordshire
You can still enjoy a blood-curdling bonanza of events and activities in Staffordshire this scary season without breaking the bank.
Take on the Creepy Crawly Trail at Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood, scouring the glorious National Trust grounds to find the hidden decorations, or counting the spiders on the self-led trail (27th October-4th November).
Expect strange happenings in Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre for the very first Spooky Saturday (27th October), with a pumpkin trail, craft workshops, stilt robots and even zombie drummers throughout the day.
And you can pick your own pumpkins for free at Essington Farm (refundable deposit required) from 6th October.
