For this month's roving report, I went along to the Snowdome to test my 'legendary' balance and coordination on their Learn to Ski in a Day course.

I had every reason to be nervous after my laughable attempts on the high ropes at Alton Towers' Tree Top Quest - would I come back in plaster, or get away with just battered and bruised?

Find out in this little film we did:

In all honesty, I shouldn't have worried - my instructor Kasia was really professional and most importantly patient.

Through the day, she taught me those all-important skills - how to get up the 170m slope, how to get moving, how to use your snow plough to slow down, and above all, how to stop before you hit the barriers!

It's great fun and surprisingly good exercise. And the real snow was a great cushion for my (many) falls.

In fact I had so much fun I would definitely go back - perhaps with some padded trousers though next time :)

I'll be at the Winter Olympics in no time - watch out Eddie the Eagle!

All you need to know

The Learn to Ski in a Day course is a full day on the snow - just like being in a ski resort for the day.

As well as a whole eight hours with your instructor, your lunch and evening coffees are covered, along with all your equipment hire.

It is priced at £169 per person. Experiences are booked direct by phone (03448 000011) or email (info@snowdome.co.uk).

What else can you do at the Snowdome?

As well as ski lessons for all abilities (not just beginners), there's loads to try including snowboard lessons, tobogganing, sledging, ice skating on the UK's only ice track, and tiny, junior and adrenaline tubing.

New for 2017 is the Snowdome Climb, which opened in December with 15 different climb lanes for the whole family to tackle across two climbing walls.

And every Christmas there is the popular Santa's Winter Wonderland, with live shows with Santa and Friends,  the Christmas snow trail, real reindeer and a talking post box for all your Santa letters!
