Staffordshire’s Finest Revealed
Staffordshire is celebrating a trio of successes as the 2014 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence were announced during English Tourism Week.
Recognising the very best that English tourism has to offer, Staffordshire’s finalists include Keele University Conferences & Events for the Business Tourism Award, The Trentham Estate for Large Visitor Attraction of the Year and Colton House, in Rugeley, for Sustainable Tourism Award.
Finalists of the prestigious accolades will be rigorously assessed over the coming weeks by independent assessors and judged by a board of tourism industry experts. Winners will then be invited to the award ceremony at Cheltenham Racecourse on Monday 12th May.
The finalists represent the finest in the industry and include a wealth of attractions, accommodation providers, tourism experiences, Tourist Information Centres and businesses across the UK that have shown complete dedication to developing the excellent standards of English tourism. Each finalist will receive Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended in their category.
Graeme Whitehead, Destination Staffordshire’s Tourism Manager, said: "Congratulations are in order for our three Staffordshire finalists. It is testament to their hard work and commitment and we are very proud to have three examples of the best English tourism has to offer right here in Staffordshire. We wish them the very best of luck for the awards ceremony in May."
James Berresford, VisitEngland’s Chief Executive, said: "We receive hundreds of applications each year of an extremely high standard, so it is a tremendous achievement for any business to become a finalist. Each finalist is already a winner and can take justifiable pride and credit in earning a coveted place in the top five in their category in England, and in the contribution they make to an industry worth £106 billion to the economy, supporting 2.6 million jobs."
