Staffordshire guest house crowned VisitEngland’s B&B of the Year 2015


Colton House receive Gold Award for Best B&B in VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2015


Three Staffordshire businesses have scooped awards at a national tourism awards.

Colton House in Colton, near Rugeley, Staffordshire was named overall winner taking Gold in the Best Bed & Breakfast/Guest Accommodation of The Year category at the 2015 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence held in Gateshead on Monday.

The guest house which was also shortlisted for the Sustainable Tourism Award achieved a Highly Commended prize as well.


Award winning Gladstone Pottery Museum

Gladstone Pottery Museum in Stoke-on-Trent received Bronze in the Small Visitor Attraction of The Year category while Simply Staffordshire in Denstone, near Uttoxeter was Highly Commended in the Visitor Information of The Year section.

All three business qualified for the VisitEngland awards after winning Gold or Silver in their respective categories at Destination Staffordshire’s 2014 Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards.

The news comes at a time when Staffordshire is seeing a tourism boom with almost 25 million people from home and abroad enjoying day or overnight trips to the area.

The number of visitors have helped generate £1.1 billion to the local economy.

Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council cabinet member for economy, environment and transport, said: "This is fantastic news not only for Colton House but for Staffordshire as a whole.

"It goes to show how a small business can go on to achieve national recognition and we’re delighted by their success and the platform the Staffordshire Awards gave them.

"Praise must go to Gladstone Pottery Museum for all its efforts to achieve a brilliant bronze award. Simply Staffordshire should be proud, firstly for being nominated and secondly attaining highly commended from the judges.

"We congratulate them all."

Colton House is a luxury guest house that lies in rural Staffordshire. The Grade II* listed building is styled as a ‘boutique hotel’ and boasts 11 individually designed en-suite bedrooms.

Entries for this year’s Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards are planned to open in July.
