Rich's Roving Reports: National Football Centre
Can there be any better day out for a football fan than a trip to the National Football Centre?
Being a fan of the Mighty Stoke City and The Beautiful Game since I was a wee nipper, a visit to St George’s Park, to see where the Rooneys and Gerrards prepared for the big tournaments, had been high on my agenda for years.
So imagine my excitement as I headed along the long and winding road onto the 330 acre site!
The tour does not disappoint, taking in the changing rooms, autograph wall (complete with one or two famous names), hydrotherapy pools used by the likes of Mo Farah, and the state-of-the-art gyms used to prepare for playing at altitude before the last World Cup.
Most exciting of all were the pitches – one an exact replica of the Wembley surface, and the other an indoor pitch accredited to host Champions League matches by UEFA!
Tours are £9 per person and scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year.
Keep an eye on http://www.thefa.com/st-georges-park/activities/the-st-georges-park-tour for further information on dates.
The 12 amazing pitches are available for hire too! The pitches can accommodate full-side or small-sided football and coaching for all age groups.
Or try the England Experience, which gives you an England strip with your name and number, a professional team photo, and use of the elite changing room!
There are loads of sporting attractions and events to enjoy in Staffordshire!
You could stay at the Hilton at St George’s Park and combine with a day at Uttoxeter Racecourse, hit the slopes at SnowDome in Tamworth, or a bike ride around the stunning countryside, with one of our short break packages.
Or you could learn about the history of brewing at the nearby National Brewery Centre!
Enjoy three top attractions for as little as £140 for couples and £160 for a family of four – including an overnight stay in one of our top hotels! Click here to find out more.
