High Street
Staffordshire is packed with quaint villages and historic market towns which provide an inviting shopping experience.
While Eccleshall was named in the Domesday Book in 1086 and given a market charter in 1153, there is a decidedly modern range of shops, cafes and pubs to explore on the town’s high street.
Choose from art galleries, independent clothing stores, artisan coffee shops and more while admiring the historic buildings protected by conservation area status since the 1960s.
As the Garden Town of Staffordshire, Biddulph is awash with colour all year round and boasts independent stores, cafes and pubs to enjoy – including Povey’s Oatcakes where you can sample the famous North Staffordshire delicacy.
The picturesque village of Brewood, regarded as one of South Staffordshire’s jewels, is a popular destination on narrowboat holidays as the Shropshire Union Canal meanders a short stroll away.
Moor up and mosey along the high street, festooned with shops, bistros, tea rooms and inns for a typically English retail experience.
Peruse a good mix of boutique stores and well-known brands at Uttoxeter, just minutes away from the pulsating action of Uttoxeter Racecourse.
Discover the craft shops, antiques, jewellery and clockmakers of Tutbury, in the shadow of the historic castle which was Mary Queen of Scots’ prison on four occasions from 1569 to 1585.
Wander the arcades of Rugeley and Burntwood, home to high street names and independent retailers, before a relaxing stroll at Cannock Chase and Chasewater Country Park.
Take a ghost tour of a haunted pub on Burslem’s main thoroughfare, home to the Barewall Gallery showcasing Staffordshire artists, as well as Burslem School of Art and the stunning Wedgwood Institute.
