The Local Area

Leek is situated on a hill in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands countryside, and is perfectly located for exploring the great outdoors.  The town lies just south of an impressive gritstone edifice made up of The Roaches, Ramshaw Rocks and Hen Cloud.

Leek has long been a pioneer of promoting local businesses, and the town recently introduced an initiative called Totally Locally Leek, set up to encourage residents and visitors to shop locally.  This has supported the wealth of independent shops, cafés and pubs in the town, as well as a wonderful Makers’ Market on the first Sunday of every month, featuring award-winning food producers and artisan craftspeople. The property is situated less than a 5 minute walk from Leek town centre.

Outdoor enthusiasts will also love the town's proximity to Rudyard Lake and Tittesworth Reservoir, both picturesque lakes that support a range of outdoor pursuits, including sailing, canoeing and fishing, as well as hiking, running and cycling.

Thrill-seekers of all ages will be happy at Alton Towers Resort, only a few miles out of Leek.

For more gentle thrills, the Churnet Valley Railway at Cheddleton is also well worth exploring, a heritage railway line that runs for 10 miles from Kingsley & Froghall station to Ipstones.

Or head for Coombes Valley RSPB Reserve, a woodland wildlife reserve since 1963.  It has many beautiful nature trails and birdwatching viewpoints.

The renowned spa town of Buxton is only a 20 minute drive away offering shops, markets, spas, a lovely park and of course, The Buxton Opera House.

The City of Stoke-on-Trent has been shaped by its production of pottery for centuries. Factory tours, outstanding visitor centres and museums, and hand-on opportunities including the chance to throw your hand at the potter’s wheel plus numerous factory outlets including Wedgewood, Emma Bridgewater and Denby.

There is also the beautiful market town of Bakewell (the home of the Bakewell Tart!) only 20 miles away with the stunning Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall only a short drive from there.

There are so many ways for you to appreciate the natural beauty of the Staffordshire Moorlands and the Peak District with numerous countryside walks you can start straight from the front door, and within a few miles you are in the Peak District where there are many beautiful spots for walks such as The Roaches, Dovedale and Castleton to name a few.
You also have the Manifold Valley, Monsal Trail, Tissington Trail and High Peak Trail which are all excellent cycle tracks with bike hire options available.

There is so much more to see and do and a more comprehensive list is included in our digital guidebook which will be sent to you before your stay with us.
