Indulge in a dainty sandwich, sweet treat and a brew at one of these fine establishments – home of five of the best afternoon teas in Staffordshire.

Totally Delicious, Trentham Shopping Village

Let’s start with the Totally Delicious restaurant, at the shopping village at The Trentham Estate, which has created an afternoon tea experience with a difference – the Afternoon Tapas Tea!

The mouth-watering menu features brisket tacos, halloumi bites, macarons, chocolate filled churros and more, washed down with your choice of tea or americano coffee. Or you could even upgrade to add a bottomless glass of Prosecco!

COMPETITION NEWS! Win an Afternoon Tapas Tea for Two at Totally Delicious – Trentham Shopping Village in the latest Taste of Staffordshire competition! Head to the Taste of Staffordshire Facebook page to enter.

If a more traditional afternoon tea is your preference, try one of Totally Delicious’ other tea rooms at Amerton Farm and Middleport Pottery.

The Red Lion, Bradley

Enjoy an afternoon tea in an idyllic rural retreat at The Red Lion in Bradley, near Stafford.

Winners of the Afternoon Tea of the Year Award at the 2017 Taste of Staffordshire Good Food Awards, The Red Lion boasts a beautifully-presented treat, with homemade scones, Brew Tea Company teas, and delightful finger sandwiches, as well as a Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea option offering Scotch eggs, crusty rolls and real ales.

The building dates back to the 17th Century and retains many of the original features, including the timber frame, and the huge standing stones, which, some say, can help young women predict their future!

A little gem of a place, with a quintessentially English village and the 13th Century Church of Saint Mary & All Saints providing the picturesque backdrop.

Essington Farm, South Staffordshire

The current Afternoon Tea of the Year, at The Country Kitchen at Essington Farm in South Staffordshire, is a real treat for all the family.

Everything is made fresh on the premises, using the highest quality ingredients - many of which have been grown or reared on the farm next door – and the homemade strawberry jam, scones and cakes are to die for!

Younger visitors can choose from the Child’s Afternoon Tea, with a selection of simple sandwiches, mini sausage roll, cupcake, and half a scone, served with fruit juice or milk.

And there’s also the Toddler's Afternoon Tea, for those requiring even smaller portions.

Various dietary requirements (such as a vegan afternoon tea available on request) are catered for, making sure everyone can indulge.

The Three Horseshoes Country Inn, Leek

What could be better on a warm summer's day than afternoon tea on a terrace overlooking The Roaches, Staffordshire’s rugged gritstone masterpiece?

That's exactly what's on offer at The Three Horseshoes Country Inn & Spa near Leek, where the three options – Traditional Afternoon Tea, G & Tea, and Tea With Bubbles – are served from Wednesday to Saturday (3pm-5pm only, booking essential).

Enjoy freshly-baked scones and homemade sandwiches and British desserts, and wash it down with your choice from a large selection of teas - or perhaps a glass of fizz or gin!

As the reigning Casual Dining Restaurant of the Year from the 2018 Taste of Staffordshire Good Food Awards, you can be sure of the highest standards of food and customer service, and backed up with the amazing views outside it's hard to beat for afternoon tea.

Denstone Hall Farm Shop & Café, East Staffordshire

If you'd like a local ale to wash down your afternoon tea, head for Denstone Hall Cafe near Uttoxeter - there are six to choose from, plus a gluten-free option!

Both the Denstone Hall Afternoon Tea and the Countryman's Afternoon Tea feature locally-sourced produce, including beef reared on the adjoining farm and hung for 28 days - you can't get much more local than that!

If they can't find the ingredients on their own farm, owners Rupert and Emma Evans are sure to call on their 48 different local suppliers for help.

Visitors appear to appreciate the efforts made to source locally alongside providing great customer service. Their reviews on TripAdvisor rave about the 'fresh and tasty' produce and 'delicious cake', not to mention the 'kind, obliging staff'.

Experience it for yourself, between 2pm and 4.30pm every day (2pm-4pm on Sundays).
