Three of Staffordshire’s best tourism businesses are in the running to be named the best in the country after reaching the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence finals.

The National Memorial Arboretum is a finalist in the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year category, while World of Wedgwood is into the last three in the Guided Tour of the Year, and Colton House could win the Sustainable Tourism award.

It is the fifth time Colton House, a luxury bed & breakfast near Rugeley, has reached the Awards for Excellence finals.

All three must now wait for the awards ceremony, at the Bath Assembly Rooms on Monday 23rd April, to discover whether they have achieved Gold, Silver or Bronze placings.

Destination Staffordshire Senior Visitor Economy Marketing Officer Andrea Sammons said: “We are thrilled that, during English Tourism Week, three of our Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Award winners have been selected as finalists in the national awards and will be representing Staffordshire on the national stage.

“Tourism is an important sector for Staffordshire, generating more than £1.7bn for our economy and supporting in excess of 31000 jobs, and the drive for quality, continuous improvement and excellent customer service these businesses demonstrate epitomises an industry which continues to thrive in the county.”

VisitEngland Chief Executive Sally Balcombe said: “These awards are a celebration of our thriving tourism industry.

“They highlight the people and the organisations that deliver amazing experiences for visitors, raising the profile of England as a world-class destination.

“The finalists have shown themselves to be of the highest calibre, using their talent and innovation to deliver excellence.

“The hundreds of applications this year reflect the quality products across our tourism landscape and I warmly congratulate all the finalists and wish them the very best of luck.”
