Staffordshire to Decide on Best Tourist Attractions
Staffordshire’s best tourism businesses are being given the chance to win one of fifteen coveted trophies with the launch of this year’s Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards.
Led by Destination Staffordshire, the awards recognise the best tourism businesses across individual categories and culminate in an exclusive ceremony to be hosted in October.
Graeme Whitehead, Staffordshire County Council’s Tourism Manager said: “Following on from the success of the inaugural Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards last year, we are encouraging even more businesses to come forward to celebrate their successes and the significant role they play in the county’s tourism economy.”
The fifteen award categories range from ‘Tourism Experience of the Year’ to ‘Bed & Breakfast of the Year’. Judges of the 2014 awards will be looking for tourism providers who offer the highest standards of welcome, quality of service and customer care.
Following on from the success of last year, Destination Staffordshire are awarding special commendations focused on the valuable contribution Staffordshire restaurateurs and producers make in supporting the tourism offer.
Mark Kerrigan, Chair of Destination Staffordshire, and Alton Towers Resort's Operations and Development Director, said: “Staffordshire currently plays host to a plethora of visitor attractions from large theme parks and country estates to working farms, as well as a raft of family friendly restaurants and fine dining establishments, all offering a great choice for today’s visitor.
“Tourism and the benefits that it brings to our county are of the utmost importance. It is fast becoming one of the biggest economic contributors to the region, and it is vital that our businesses and their achievements are recognised and endorsed by the awards. ”
The Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards are free to enter and are open to any tourism business located within the county. Winners from this year’s awards will be automatically entered into the national Visit England Awards for Excellence.
Last year Staffordshire toasted three of its tourism awards winners who were shortlisted by Visit England.
Marcus Wilson, Head of Commercial Marketing at Keele University, says: “Each year we look forward to the opportunity to promote Keele Hall and the University campus across both the Midlands region and the nation.
“As part of a world-class university we pride ourselves on delivering excellence. So, it meant a great deal to us to win gold at the 2013 Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards and then go through to the Visit England national awards - it was a real testament to the hard work of our team.
“Awards are really important to our marketing and PR strategy and winning them gives us an independent seal of approval. It also celebrates the commitment of our staff who have built a reputation for excellence by going above and beyond for clients and working with them to deliver a solution to meet their specific needs.”
