Race is on for 2015 Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards
Businesses from the tourism sector are being invited to submit their entries for the 2015 Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards.
Companies from the hospitality, visitor attraction and food/drink industry in the county have until 5pm on 30th September 2015 to return their applications.
Led by Destination Staffordshire, the awards recognise the best tourism businesses across individual categories and the winners will be unveiled at a ceremony on 16th November which is to be held at Drayton Manor Park.
The attraction is celebrating its 65th anniversary and the awards event will centre around a 1950’s theme.
Councillor Mark Winnington, deputy chair of Destination Staffordshire and Staffordshire County Council cabinet member for economy, environment and transport, said:
“The Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards is a fantastic event that recognises all the very best of Staffordshire’s tourism industry.
“It is important to acknowledge the businesses that help attract so much to the county’s economy and competition is healthy for driving up standards.
“Last year’s Enjoy Staffordshire awards gave small businesses a platform for national exposure and they have gone from strength-to-strength.
“I’d urge anyone in the industry to put their application in as they could be a winner.”
The 2014 ceremony saw dozens of organisations vying to win one of 17 award categories.
Those successful at the Enjoy Staffordshire awards were then considered for the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in May.
Three businesses from the county went on to collect national gongs.
Colton House in Colton near Rugeley achieved two national prizes. It won Best Bed & Breakfast of the Year and was Highly Commended for the Sustainable Tourism Award.
Gladstone Pottery Museum in Stoke-on-Trent received Bronze in the Small Visitor Attraction of The Year category, while Simply Staffordshire in Denstone, near Uttoxeter was Highly Commended in the Visitor Information of The Year section.
Rupert Evans runs Denstone Hall Farm Shop and Café near Uttoxeter with his wife Emma.
Their business won three gold awards at last year’s Enjoy Staffordshire ceremony.
Mr Evans said: “To win an award is a quality mark to show customers the standard of service you provide.
“To enter doesn’t cost anything and if you can prove you are doing something right it is a boost to your business when visitors can see you have been successful.”
This year’s Enjoy Staffordshire Awards are set to be hotly contested.
