The Trent & Mersey canal runs through the heart of this attractive market town which has established a reputation for excellent food and drink. There are several good restaurants, pubs and winebars, local 'Lymestone Brewery' micro-brewery, a Farmers' Market held the 1st Saturday of each month and an annual Autumn Food & Drink Festival.
The pedestrianised town centre offers a good mix of well-known high street retailers together with independent shops, boutiques and specialist stores. The town Markets are also a regular feature in the High Street - visiting Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Stone is steeped in a long and colourful history as a 'canal town', situated midway along the Trent and Mersey Canal. Day boats can be hired from the Canal Crusing Company based in the town, or for a longer cruise they also offer traditional narrowboar holidays. Nearby Aston Marina provides mooring facilities, a bistro and farm shop.
