Elkstone, a beautifully quiet village in this hidden corner of the Peak District, comprises two farming hamlets, Upper and Lower Elkstone, which nestle into the hillside above Warslow Brook. It is sheltered to the west by the moorland ridge from which you'll enjoy magnificent views across to the Roaches and Ramshaw Rocks.
The village centre is focused around the church in Upper Elkstone. This was built in 1788 and has been hardly altered since and so is a perfect example of a Georgian country church; a real gem. The village also features pretty cottages with lovely gardens and on the ridge some two miles above the village you will find the Mermaid Inn, an old coaching inn with some magnificent views across to the Roaches and Ramshaw Rocks which are well worth the trip to see.
