Details

At only 26 miles Cannock Chase is the smallest mainland AONB in Britain. It is jointly owned by the County Council and the Forestry Commission. The Country Park covers 1300 hectares making it one of the largest country parks in Britain and the jewel in the county council's countryside estate. Large parts of the country park are designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Special Areas of Conservation because of their important wildlife habitats. Although the area is largely "motorless" it has many car parks that are easily accessible.

At Marquis Drive there is a visitor centre and cafe, education centre, children's playground and a variety of self-guided trails. A new feature is the Great War Hut, containing interpretation and memorabilia to commemorate the Great War.

Also located on the Chase near Sherbrook Valley are a Commonwealth War Cemetery and the German Military Cemetery containing the graves of 5000 German Servicemen from two world wars.
